As with most pain treatment options, a cortisone (steroid) injection reduces inflammation in the pained area. For Tendon and Soft Tissue injections, most patients would find relief from things like tennis elbow, elbow pain, tendonitis and wrist pain.
What to Expect:
A cortisone injection is used to treat many issues dealing with inflammation. If Dr. Henriquez determines that this is the right option to treat elbow or wrist pain, then the injection would take place right in our office. The appointment will only last about 20 minutes. Dr. Henriquez uses an Ultrasound Machine to guide the injection to the correct point.
Once the injection is administered, it may take one to two days to feel relief. There may be minor pain or swelling at the site of the injection. Many patients feel immediate relief. This relief lasts anywhere between six weeks and six months or more.
What does a Soft Tissue and Tendon Cortisone Injection Treat:
People suffering from inflamed tendons such as tendonitis or bursitis may be right for this treatment. This includes athletes. Essentially, any inflamed area that is not a joint or bone. This may even include pain relief in muscles or bursa (a sac of fluid that cushions tendons, ligaments, muscles or bones).
The injection may include an anesthetic as well. The anesthetic (lidocaine) will help bring immediate relief where the steroid (cortisone) takes a couple days to start working.
