What is a Spinal Cord Stimulator?
A Spinal Cord Stimulator can bring relief to your extremities that are experiencing burning or pain. It simply provides a different type of sensation such as a buzzing or massaging feeling which prevents you from feeling the burning pain you had before. Think of it like the Tens unit you can buy at Amazon that makes it so you can no longer perceive your pain.
Sciatica Relief
This is a form of treatment for sciatica pain. This type of pain radiates outward. The procedure and the technology associated with it gets better every year to where you may experience no pain at all after such a procedure. Some advertise that the procedure would also help lower back pain, however, this is typically only going to be used after everything else has been tried first.
What to Expect
The spinal cord stimulator is something you can take home and try for 5 days.
The procedure in office is similar to an epidural where the leads are injected into your back, and everything else is externally taped to the body for about 5-7 days. During this time, there is a representative who calls you each day to see how your pain is being managed. After which time, you will come back for a follow-up visit with me directly to determine whether this is meeting your pain care needs.
If this type of technique is providing pain relief, then it will be surgically implanted into your body to provide long-term pain relief.
