My name is Katy Hernandez Castro. I currently live in Florida but I’m originally from Cuba where I graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in 2004. Then I moved to this wonderful country that gave me the opportunity to continue my studies and I assisted to Miami Regional University and obtained a Master’s degree in Family Nurse Practitioner in 2020 and have been working as a pain management nurse practitioner since then helping patients to reduce and manage pain and getting them back to their normal life without surgery or heavy reliance on medications.
I’m currently enrolled in a Psychiatrist/Mental Health online program at Wilkes University. I believe this program will be very beneficial because it will help me to better understand my patients’ needs. People living with chronic pain are at heightened risk for mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders including opioid medications. Psychological interventions plays an important role in the treatment and management of pain.
During my spare time, I love to travel, especially cruising. Also riding bike, watching movies and spending time with my family.
